5 comprehensive resources for families, teachers & kids that promote understanding & respect
Children cannot learn & thrive if they don't feel safe. Building inclusive environments within schools & communities is vital. The following organizations offer families, educators & students proactive strategies aimed at preventing discrimination & bullying.
The Anti-Defamation League's anti-bias & bullying prevention programs assist educators & students in understanding bias & building ally behaviors. Two of those programs, A World of Difference® Institute & No Place for Hate®, provide comprehensive frameworks for developing respective, inclusive school atmospheres.
Facing History & Ourselves offers resources to empower teachers & students to think critically about pivotal moments in history & connect current events into class curriculums. A range of topics covered include Democracy & Civil Engagement, Civil Rights, & Global Immigration.
Teaching Tolerance is a project of the Southern Poverty Law Center. Their goal is to encourage children & young people to challenge prejudice & learn how to be agents of change in their own lives. Teaching Tolerance offers lesson plans, film kits & posters, as well as teaching texts that include literature, photographs, political cartoons, interviews, infographics and more, all divided by grade level.
StopBullying.gov provides information on bullying & cyberbullying, identifying those at risk, & how each of us can prevent & respond to bullying behavior.
PACER's National Bullying Prevention Center provides informative guides for parents to understand the dynamics of bullying, help their children through bullying situations, & learn how to communicate with school staff. In addition, the PACER Center's Kids Against Bullying website is designed for elementary school students to learn about bullying prevention, engage in activities & be inspired to take action.
